JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis lost 4-1 to Louisiana Tech at the Jax State Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.
The Gamecocks took the doubles point, before losing four-straight in singles to the Bulldogs.
Polina Ramenskaja and
Aneka Patel got the day rolling with a 6-4 win on doubles court one. On court two,
Sae Kaneko and
Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo fell 6-4 to Alice Brook and Maria Tsironi.
On court three,
Irene Artigas and
Emma Montagner clinched the doubles point against Diana Starodubteva and June Vigneron. Artigas and Montagner clinched doubles thanks to a 7-5 final.
In singles, Ramenskaja fell 6-1, 6-1 to Zoie Epps on court one.
Alba Roche lost 6-2, 6-2 on court five against Vigneron. Patel lost a close match against Nina Skoric on court two. Skoric won the first set 6-3, then Patel responded with a 6-4 victory in the second set. Skoric won the third 6-4.
Rodriguez-Rizo and Starodubtseva played a three-set match on court three. Starodubtseva won the first set 6-1, before Rodriguez-Rizo earned a 7-5 triumph in the second set. Starodubtseva clinched the match for LA Tech with a 6-3 win in the third set.
Artigas won the first set 6-4 on court four, then lost 6-4 in the second. Her match was in the third set with her leading 3-1 when the match went unfinished. Kaneko also went unfinished in her match on court six. Kaneko won the first set 6-4 then lost the second 7-5. The match was tied 2-2 when it was unfinished.
The Gamecocks move on to face Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday, March 4, on the road.
