A pair of late goals propel Jax State to first road win of 2026

BOILING SPRINGS, NC – Jax State scored two late goals to comeback and defeat Gardner-Webb, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon in Boiling Springs. Jax State improves to 3-4-2 while Gardner-Webb drops to 3-5-1.

The first half was evenly played with both teams' leading scorer finding the back of the net. Garner-Webb's Julia McBride started the scoring off quick with a goal at the 2' mark. Emma Reeder followed with her fourth goal in the last four games at the 15' mark. Right before halftime, the Bulldogs took the lead at the 42' mark on a Madison Reynolds goal.

The second half started very slowly. Then Nina Falygayrac found open space and crossed the ball which led to a hand ball and a PK for the Gamecocks. Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga took the PK and scored the equalizing goal at the 75' mark.

Only three minutes later, Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga passed into the box and Lily Cornwell got to the ball and passed to a wide-open Amelia Jacobs, who scored the game winning goal. The Gamecocks completed the comeback.

Gardner-Webb's chances were slim to find the equalizer after their goalie received a red card at the 80' mark for handling outside the box on a goal scoring opportunity.

The Gamecocks look to make it three straight wins to finish their non-conference games this Sunday, against UT Martin at 6:00pm.
