BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After guiding the Gamecocks to the Bama Bash title last weekend, Jacksonville State junior
Brooke Schumacher has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Setter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The conference's head coaches selected the 5-foot-7 setter from Lake In The Hills, Ill., after she paved the way for a 2-1 weekend at the University of Alabama's tournament for the Gamecocks (5-2). She totaled 153 assists on the week, an average of 10.9 per set.
Schumacher earned the second Setter of the Week honor in her career after the impressive week, which culminated with a 3-1 JSU win over the host Crimson Tide. She dished 54 assists in the win over Alabama capping a three-match tourney that saw her average 11.5 assists per set.
She also had 34 assists in a win over McNeese State in Tuscaloosa, while picking up 27 assists and eight digs in a tourney-opening loss to Southern Methodist. Schumacher had 38 assists and five digs in a loss at UAB earlier in the week.
It marked the second honor in as many weeks for the Gamecocks this season after sophomore libero
Lauren Harkins was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 31. The Gamecocks will travel to Auburn on Tuesday to face the Tigers in a match that is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
