Blue Raiders Snap JSU Softball's Win Streak

FINAL STATS

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State softball team had its 13-game win streak snapped in a 4-2 loss in the first game of a doubleheader at Middle Tennessee before rain ended the second game.

A three-run third inning proved too much for the Gamecocks (21-7) to overcome in the opening game, one in which Jordyn Fisherback held the JSU bats at bay. She allowed just two runs on four hits in seven innings in the circle to improve to 5-6 on the season for the Blue Raiders (9-16).

She was the beneficiary of an RBI single from Nina Davenport and a two-run base knock by Corrie Abel in that third and held on.

The Gamecocks got an RBI single from junior Abbey Stepp in the third and one from Krystal Ruth in the seventh to account for their scoring. Stepp led JSU at the plate with a 2-for-3 showing, her eighth multi-hit game in her last 10.

Senior Ashley Eliasson (1-2) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in four innings of work. Sophomore Hilary Phillips tossed the final two frames and allowed one hit and a pair of walks.

Things started off well in the second game but after a two-run home run by Kristin Graham put JSU up, officials called the game because of the threat of rain.

The Gamecocks return home this weekend to host Southeast Missouri in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at University Field. The weekend will get underway with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and wrap up with a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free to all JSU home softball games.
