FINAL STATS
RICHMOND, Ky. – Michael Garcia hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to lead Eastern Kentucky to a 3-2 win over Jacksonville State as the Colonels avoided the three-game sweep on Sunday.
Jacksonville State (8-15, 2-1) had its six-game winning streak snapped, but did win its seventh straight series over the Colonels.
Shane Grimm (2-4) scattered nine hits and allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings on the mound to earn the win for Eastern Kentucky.
Hunter Rivers (0-3) gave up all three runs and only five hits to get stuck with the loss for the Gamecocks.
Jax State took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after
Scott Underwood slugged a solo home run to left field, but the Colonels answered in the home half of the inning on a RBI single by Austin Grisham.
EKU took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning after on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Daniel and then added a run in the seventh inning after Garcia hit a solo home to extend the lead to 3-1.
Jax State added a run in the eighth inning after
Kyle Bluestein hit his second home run of the season to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Gamecocks could get no closer.

Scott Underwood each had two hits to lead the Gamecocks, while Grisham had two hits to lead EKU.
Jacksonville State returns to action on Tuesday as the Gamecocks host Troy University. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
