Tennessee Tech Edges JSU Men, 4-3

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Tennessee Tech on Wednesday in Ohio Valley Conference men's tennis action at the Tech Tennis Courts.

JSU fell to 3-2 versus OVC foes and 7-11 overall, while the Golden Eagles remained unbeaten in league play at 5-0.

Tech started off by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.  Jax State's pairing of Axel Sundberg and Nenad Marcec fell to TTU's No. 1 duo of Syrym Abdukhalikov and Alejandro Augusto.  The point was clinched when TTU's Alvaro Cintas and Othon Lima edged JSU's team of Felipe Diaz and Felipe Watanabe, 8-6.

Marcec, Wenzel and Watanabe notched wins for the Gamecocks in singles play.  Marcec, moved to 3-2 in the OVC with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 over TTU's Artem Tarasov.  Wenzel and Watanabe won three set marathons at No. 5 and 6 respectively.  Wenzel dropped the opening set to Arturo Santa Ruiz, 6-3, but bounced back to win 6-4, 6-4 to claim the win.  Watanabe, facing Tech's Othon Lima, spilt the first two sets before closing out in the third set with a 6-2 win.

Tech clinched the match after Abdukhalikov turned back JSU's Igor Santos at No. 1 – 6-4, 7-5. 

Sundberg and Diaz fell in straight sets at No. 2 and 4.

The Gamecocks return to OVC action this weekend as they host Eastern Illinois on Saturday, April 6.  Match time is set for 10 a.m. JSU will also host SIU Edwardsville on Sunday, April 7 at 10 a.m.
