JACKSONVILLE – Both Jacksonville State tennis teams started a lengthy homestand on Tuesday, but did not get off to a great start with losses to Mercer at the JSU Tennis Courts.

The loss dropped the JSU men's team to 4-5 overall as they head in to conference play this weekend on the JSU campus.  The Gamecock women, who played their first home match of the season, fell to 3-6 on the season.

In the men's match, Jax State dropped the doubles point, which set the tone for the rest of the match.  The Gamecocks lone point came at No. 4 singles.  Freshman Jefferson Wendler-Filho topped MU's Austin Emmet in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.  The win was his third consecutive singles win and moved to 6-3 on the season in singles.  The Bears won in straight sets at the other five spots in the line up.

JSU's No. 3 doubles pairing of Mathias Chaim and Dylan Gee edged the Bears' duo of Joao Pagan and Anderson Scarpa, 8-7.

In the women's match, MU posted the first point of the match after winning the doubles point.  The No. 3 JSU tandem of Zoe Bizinos and Danielle Kerindi moved to 5-4 on the season together after turning back MU's team of Natalie Franklin and Haley Powell, 8-6.

Senior Raisa Guasti picked up her fifth win of the season after quick-working MU's Danielle Jones, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1.  Freshman Sadey St. Amant continues to improve each match as she won her first three-set match over Amanda Bertani.  St. Amant claimed the opening set, 7-5, but Bertani forced the third set with a 6-1 win.  St. Amant blanked Bertani 6-0 in the third-and-deciding set.

JSU now turns its attention to Ohio Valley Conference play as the women will host UT Martin on March 8, while the JSU men will face off with Eastern Kentucky on March 9.  The JSU-UTM match will get underway at 11 a.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.  The Gamecocks and Colonels will start at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
