Men's Box ScoreWomen's Box ScoreNASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jacksonville State tennis began the stretch run of the Ohio Valley Conference season with a sweep of Tennessee State on Saturday in Nashville on the TSU campus.
Both squads blanked the Tigers 7-0 to get back in the win column after falling in their non-conference finale last Wednesday at home. The JSU men kept themselves in the running for the league's regular season title as they moved to 5-1 on the season and sets up a key match on Sunday with OVC frontrunner, Belmont, who stands at 6-0 on the season after edging Tennessee Tech, 4-3, on Saturday. The Jax State women snapped a six-match losing skid with the win and kept in contention for one of the six OVC Tournament spots. The win pushed the Gamecocks OVC mark to 3-4 and will look to even the conference record with a Sunday tilt at Belmont.
In the men's match, the two squads split the two doubles matches played as JSU won by default at No. 3 doubles. Jax State's tandem of
Dylan Gee and
Mathias Chaim knocked off TSU's duo of Joe Daniels and Branden McClain, 8-6 after TSU claimed the match at No. 1 doubles.
JSU worked quickly in posting its 12
th win of the season by winning in straight sets in all five of the matches contested as JSU won at No. 6 by default. At No. 1,
Jaryd Reese turned back TSU's Daniel Benal, 6-4, 6-1. Gee earned his fifth conference win of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kyle Burton at No. 2.
Jefferson Wendler-Filho picked up a conference win at No. 3 after disposing of McClain, 6-3, 6-0. Chaim and
Felipe Diaz posted a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at N0. 4 and 5 respectively.
The women's match mirrored the men's action as JSU claimed the doubles point after carding wins at all three spots, including a win by default at No. 2. The top pairing of
Raisa Guasti and
Claudia Marsala ousted TSU's team of Victoria Haynes and Trinity Randolph, 8-0. JSU's duo of
Zoe Bizinos and
Olivia Nguyen matched that score over Jade Daniels and Adrianne Pressley of TSU.
JSU went up 2-0 quickly after a win by default at No. 6. The Gamecocks started to take command of the match after
Isidora Knezevic and
Danielle Kerindi tallied a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and 5 respectively. Guasti defeated Haynes at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, while Nguyen bounced Randolph 6-4, 6-0.
