JACKSONVILLE – For the second consecutive day, the Jacksonville State baseball team had another walk-off win with a four-run 11
th inning to claim an 8-7 decision over Western Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
The extra inning contest moved Jax State's overall record to 5-4 on the season, while the Hilltoppers suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season. The win claimed the weekend series with the Conference USA foe as the Gamecocks will go for the weekend sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. JSU will send
Colton Pate to the mound, while WKU will counter with Ryan Thurston.
Entering the home half of the 11
th and trailing 7-4 after WKU tallied three runs off one hit in the top of the frame, JSU strung together three straight singles by seniors

Hayden White. White delivered a bases-clearing double to the right center gap to even the game for the fourth time. Sophomore
Taylor Hawthorne slapped the game-winning hit to left field to score White from second. JSU has now had three last at bat wins on the season.
White, from Prattville, Alabama had a pair of doubles and drove in four RBI. The Gamecocks took advantage of four Hilltopper miscues in the contest as just four of the eight runs allowed were earned.
WKU, who lost 5-4 in walk-off fashion on Friday, started well as Steven Kraft belted the first pitch of the game over the centerfield wall for an early 1-0 lead. JSU responded in its first at bat with a sacrifice fly RBI by Petrongolo, scoring
Clayton Daniel. Daniel led JSU offensively with three hits and an RBI in the fifth to give JSU a 2-1 lead.
JSU's lead was short-lived as WKU tacked on a run in the sixth to equalize. Paul Murray punched a single up the middle, scoring Danny Hudzina. Jax State starter
Jack Pierce turned in a quality start with 5.2 innings and scattering four WKU hits. Pierce finished with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.
The Gamecocks matched WKU in the sixth with another unearned run in the frame. Redshirt freshman
Austin Green had an infield single and moved to second on the play after a Hilltopper throwing error. Hawthorne tallied his first of two RBI with a single to right field.
WKU scored in consecutive innings with a run in the seventh to draw even at 3-3 in the seventh and took a 4-3 lead in the eighth. JSU tied the game in the eighth after a WKU fielding blunder to start the inning. JSU manufactured the run as White grounded out to the shortstop.
JSU had a chance for the walk off in regulation after having men in scoring position with one out. WKU's Caleb Brunner was able to escape the inning and send the game to extra innings.
WKU managed to put multiple runs on the board in the 11
th on just one hit. JSU's lone error in the contest came with two outs and it left the door opened for the Hilltoppers. Zach Janes' run on the error gave WKU a 5-4 lead, followed by a single by Kaleb Ducksworth padded the lead to 7-4.
Sophomore
Dalton Etheridge, a quarterback on the JSU football team, finished the 11
th frame for the Gamecocks and picked up his first career win. WKU's Bruner was saddled with the loss.
Sunday's game will be available on the Gamecock Sports Network with air time at 12:45 p.m. Admission is free to all JSU students and all fans 18 and under.
