MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Jacksonville State's soccer match with Alabama State on Sunday was halted in the second half due to lightning in the area and approaching storms to the ASU campus.
The afternoon affair between the two in-state programs was equal at 2-2 in the 67
th minute of the contest when officials halted the game due to lightning in the area. After discussions between both squads and game officials the match was canceled and will not count in the standings.
According to NCAA rules, a match must go at least 70 minutes to be considered a contest. JSU and ASU needed around three more minutes of action to be a completed match.
Both teams endured weather issues as the lightning entered the area in the first half and play was halted for 30 minutes with match knotted a 1-all with 23 minutes left before halftime.
The Gamecocks played catch up the entire day as the Hornets registered the first goal of the contest in the first 15 minutes of the match. JSU responded with the first of two equalizing goals as freshman
Nadia Plawiuk headed the second of two headers off the crossbar to tie the game.
Before halftime ASU put its second goal on the scoreboard to take a 2-1 lead at the break.

The Gamecocks remain on the road next weekend for the final non-conference matches of the season. JSU will take part in the Nike Challenge in Charleston, South Carolina. JSU will take on Charleston Southern on Friday and The Citadel on Sunday.
