JACKSONVILLE – Three members of the Jacksonville State soccer team were named to the Nike Challenge 2 All-Tournament Team, announced on Wednesday by Charleston Southern University, the host of this past weekend's four-team event.
Senior
Justine Panchuk, who was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, was joined by senior
Mackenzie Bellows and junior
Kayla Thompson on the all-tournament team. JSU dropped a tough 1-0 decision to CSU before bouncing back with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over The Citadel.
Panchuck sparked JSU's second half against The Citadel on Sunday with the equalizing goal in the 59th minute. Panchuk scored JSU's first goal of the match on a rebound off the keeper. The goal by Panchuk was the second of her career after registering a goal against Austin Peay in 2015. The Gamecocks tallied 19 of their 23 shots in the contest in the final 45 minutes. She also keyed JSU's defense that allowed just one shot by The Citadel in the second half.
Bellows finished the weekend with four shots from her midfield position. The Calgary, Alberta, Canada native logged 158 minutes of action in the two matches. Thompson, who leads the Gamecocks in total shots, recorded four in the event, including a pair of on goal chances.
The Gamecocks will open OVC play this weekend, traveling to Cookeville, Tennessee to face Tennessee Tech on Friday afternoon. Jax State closes out the weekend in Richmond, Kentucky against Eastern Kentucky. The JSU-TTU contest will get underway at 3 p.m. Both road matches will be available on the OVC Digital Network.
