Box Score LOUISVILLE – The Jacksonville State volleyball team improved to 14-4 on the season and 4-1 in ASUN play following a 3-0 sweep over Bellarmine (5-11, 1-4), their ninth of the season.
A balanced offensive attack led the Gamecocks in the win as four players recorded at least four kills. Junior
Kylee Quigley registered a team-high 11 kills while hitting .526, a career-high in as many attempts.
Addie Halverson,
Lena Kindermann and
Zoe Gonzales each added seven kills. Jax State hit .383 overall in the match compared to just .094 for the Knights.
Lexie Libs registered 30 assists and recorded a double-double with 10 digs.
Erin Carmichael led the team with 11 digs.
The Gamecocks opened the first set on a 9-4 run, capped by back-to-back service aces from Halverson, forcing a Bellarmine timeout. Kindermann extended the JSU lead to six, 18-12, following her third kill of the set and forcing the second timeout of the set for the Knights. Gonzales gave the Gamecocks set point, 24-20 with a kill before closing out the set-one win, 25-20, with a solo block. A balanced offensive attack led the Gamecocks in set one as four players recorded three kills. JSU recorded 15 kills in the set, hitting .407. Serving was a bright spot in the opening set as the Gamecocks recorded four service aces, including two from Halverson.
JSU fell behind to begin the second set before Kindermann evened the set up 7-7 following a kill. Back-to-back kills from Quigley gave the Gamecocks a 9-7 lead. Following a media timeout, the Gamecocks scored three in a row off two Bellarmine errors and a Gonzales kill to lead 18-10, forcing a Bellarmine timeout. Back-to-back kills from Quigley held off the Knights for a 25-16 win in set two. The junior added seven kills in the second set, bringing her total to 10 for the match.
The third set saw a dominant display for the Gamecocks. After falling behind to begin the match, JSU used a 6-0 run to take a 9-4 lead over the Knights, forcing a timeout. Senior
Katie Montgomery extended the lead to seven, following a service ace and a 6-1 run, capped with a Gonzales kill, gave JSU a 23-8 lead in the match. Carmichael sealed the win with Jax State's sixth ace of the match for the 25-9 win and 3-0 match sweep. The Knights recorded 13 errors in the final set, including service errors, attack errors and ball handling errors.
Serving was a bright spot for the Gamecocks today, totaling six service aces compared to zero for the home side. Halverson led JSU with two service aces.
The Gamecocks return to action Friday, Oct. 8 in THE PETE against North Alabama at 6 p.m.
