JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer program's international recruiting has reached into Denmark as Anne Catherine Mikkelsen has signed with the Gamecocks heading into the 2021 season.

Mikkelsen, from Hillerød, Denmark, is a multi-position player and brings a wealth of high-level international competition to the Gamecocks. She has played defender, forward and the midfield spot through the international and club ranks. She has prepped at Alleroed Gymnasium from 2017-20 and spent time with Engholmskolen from 2007-16 and Copenhagen KIES from 2016-17.

Her accomplishments on the pitch include being on the Danish U18 squad that competed in the Danish Cup Final in 2018 along with reaching the 2015 Danish School Cup finals. Mikkelsen attended the 2019 Dallas Cup and the 2017 Madrid Football Cup Invitational. Her club team won the Costa Brava Cup in 2013 in the U17 girls division. Mikkelsen's 2016 club team ranked among the best in Denmark, as it reached the No. 12 spot among U18 club teams in the country

Mikkelsen also participated in track as she placed silver in the regional championship.

She is the daughter of Mads and Christina Mikkelsen and has a younger sibling. Both of her parents work in education.
