JSU Takes Down PFW 3-1 Behind Career Days from Quigley and Kindermann

Box Score WEST LAFAYETTE – The Gamecocks improved to 10-3 on the season, defeating Purdue Fort Wayne 3-1 behind career-high performances for Senior Lena Kinderman and junior Kylee Quigley.

Kindermann finished the match with a team-high and season-high 20 kills on just 27 attacks. Her .667 hit percentage is a career-high and is the fourth highest individual mark, on at least 20 attempts, in program history.

Quigley set a new career-high with 17 kills in the match. She also led the Gamecocks in digs with 15 for her first career double-double.

Purdue Fort Wayne jumped ahead of the Gamecocks 4-1 to start the match. Down 7-3, JSU used a 6-1 run to take a 9-8 lead following back-to-back Mastodon attack errors. A pair of kills from Kindermann put the Gamecocks ahead 15-11, forcing a PFW timeout. After a 4-1, PFW cut the lead to three, 22-19, Kylee Quigley recorded a kill giving the Gamecocks a 23-19 advantage. An ensuing ball-handling-error by the Mastodons and a Sadie Brown kill secured the set one win for JSU, 25-19.
 
To begin the second set, a kill from Brown gave the Gamecocks a 4-1 lead. Following the slow start, PFW used an 11-3 run to take a 12-7 lead over JSU. The Mastodons held a lead the rest of the way, winning the second set 25-21.

Both sides traded points to start the third set until the Gamecocks took a 14-12 lead following a Lexie Libs kill and Brown solo block. A kill from Brown extended the lead to five, 20-15. JSU kept its foot on the gas down stretch, scoring five more in a row, including a service ace from Erin Carmichael and three Quigley kills for the 25-15 win.
 
The Gamecocks continued their dominance from the third set into the fourth set, jumping out to a 13-4 lead after a block from Brown and Quigley. Kindermanns 20th kill of the match put JSU up 20-8, concluding a 5-1 run. Quigley's career-high 17th kill of the match, secured the 25-16 set win for the Gamecocks and the 3-1 match win. The two outside hitters combined for 11 kills in the final set.

Senior Kaylie Milton added double-figure kills in the match for the Gamecocks with 11. Overall JSU outhit the Mastodons .343 to .207 in the match. Brown led JSU with four blocks to go along with her seven kills. Libs recorded 45 assists, eight digs, and five kills.

The Gamecocks will return to Pete Mathews Coliseum next week for the start of conference play in the ASUN Crossover tournament featuring nine volleyball games in three days. JSU's first of three games over the weekend will take place against Stetson at 6 p.m.
