JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer program added its second signee from Iceland with Birta Birgisdóttir joining the Gamecocks, announced by head coach Neil Macdonald on Wednesday.

She is joined by Arndís Eggertsdóttir, who inked with JSU last week from Iceland. Birgisdóttir is from Reykjavik, Iceland. She prepped at Laugalaekjaskoli before spending time at Menntaskolinn Kopavogi, which is a college prep institution in Iceland. Birgisdóttir will add depth at Jax State's forward and midfield spots.

Birgisdóttir was coached by Katrin Omarsdottir and Jona Kristjansdottir on the prep level. She participated in soccer against professional teams at the age of 13 and lists Olympique Lyonnais France as her favorite professional club. Birgisdóttir is an honor student in the classroom.

She scored a pair of goals in each of the two seasons she played with Augnablik in 2018 and 2019 and spent the 2021 season with Breidablik.
