JSU Thumps UNA for Third Straight ASUN Series Win

FLORENCE –Jacksonville State's offense turned in a season-high 16 hits as the Gamecocks secured a third consecutive ASUN West Division series with a 12-2 win over North Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Mike Lane Field.

The Gamecocks (20-21, 13-7 ASUN) blistered UNA pitching for 16 hits, including three more home runs on the weekend after cranking five home runs in Friday's 13-8 win over the Lions (9-31, 2-18 ASUN).

Junior Carson Crowe got the scoring started with a two-run home run in the second inning. Dating back to the Auburn game last Tuesday, Crowe has tallied four home runs and now has 11 on the season. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native finished with his first four-hit contest of the season and added his third RBI of the game with an RBI in JSU's six-run fourth inning.

JSU broke the game open just like Friday night's outing with a big fourth inning. After Crowe's RBI single, senior Luke Coker had a two-run single followed by an RBI by sophomore Mason Maners. Maners continues to be a tough out at the top of the JSU batting order as he finished with a pair of hits and four RBI. He delivered his second home run of the season in as many games with a three-run blast over the right centerfield wall. With his two hits, he pushed his on-base streak to 20 consecutive games and has hit safely in 12 straight games.

Freshman Brennen Norton added his name to the JSU home run club at Mike Lane Field with a solo shot to start the sixth inning. Senior Cole Frederick joined the JSU list of multiple hits with an RBI along with Coker's pair of hits. Senior Alex Carignan recorded a three-hit day with a trio of singles, while senior Isaac Alexander, playing near his hometown of Muscle Shoals, Alabama had a hit in the win. Junior T.J. Reeves, who missed Friday's game, returned to the lineup with a single to extend his hitting streak to a season-best 10 games.

With a big cushion to work with after four innings, junior Isaiah Magwood was solid for six innings as he did not give up a run and scattered four hits and fanned four Lions in the outing.  The JSU defense helped the Jax State pitchers with three double plays turned on the afternoon that thwarted UNA scoring opportunities. Magwood moved to 5-1 on the season and his fourth against ASUN opponents.

JSU will be looking to sweep the weekend series and the season series with UNA on Sunday in the weekend wrap up game on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be carried on the Gamecock Sports Network.
