JACKSONVILLE – Following an impressive outing in last weekend's Gamecock Classic, Jacksonville State's fifth-year setter,
Claire Ochs, was named the ASUN Setter of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Ochs' selection marks JSU volleyball's first ASUN Weekly Award of the 2022 season, but her accomplishment should come as no surprise. The Chesterfield, Mo., native led all setters in the Gamecock Classic by averaging 11.10 assists per set. Ochs finished with 111 assists, 30 digs, ten kills, three service aces, and one block in Jacksonville State's victories over Nicholls, Samford, and South Dakota State at the Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The talented graduate transfer from Southeast Missouri State currently has 341 assists on the season in 32 sets played, good enough for a 10.66-per-set average. Ochs, who was named the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Setter of the Year as a Redhawk, ranks second in the ASUN in assists. She has been credited with 33 kills for JSU in 2022 to go along with a hit percentage of .355. Ochs also has 86 digs, 11 blocks, and seven aces on the year.
Ochs and the Gamecocks return to play on Tuesday night in Montgomery. Jacksonville State will carry their program-best 9-0 start to non-conference play into Lockhart Gymnansium for tomorrow's road test at Alabama State.
