Hurricane Ian Alters JSU Soccer Weekend Schedule
9/28/2022 1:29:00 PM | Soccer
JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer schedule for this weekend has been altered due to Hurricane Ian's track through the peninsula of Florida.
The Gamecocks were scheduled to be in Jacksonville, Florida this weekend for a Thursday match with the Dolphins of Jacksonville, but that match has been postponed due to the approaching storm. Sunday's JSU and North Florida match is still on schedule for Sunday, Oct. 2 on the UNF campus. Match time is set for 12 p.m. CST. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
This weekend is the first of two consecutive road trips for Jax State in the ASUN. The Gamecocks will be looking to get their first conference win of the season after dropping three tough home matches to Kennesaw State, Liberty and Queens (N.C.). The Ospreys will enter the Sunday contest at 2-5-1 overall and 1-2 in ASUN action after recoding a win last Sunday over Stetson on the road.
Even though JSU is in its second year back in the ASUN, it will be the first meeting between the two programs on the pitch as the two sides did not face each other last season.
Senior Cynthia Bagozzi continues to lead the JSU offense with three goals and 15 total shots. She is joined by junior Vanessa Mejia as the two Gamecocks with multiple goals this season. Sophomore Laleh Lonteen is the team leader in assists with two. She also has a goal this season.
Freshman Bailey Dean has made a great first impression as the Gamecocks' goalkeeper. Dean, from St. Augustine, Florida was thrown into the fire of NCAA Division I soccer from day one with starts in all but one match so far this season. Dean is listed among the top ASUN goalkeepers in saves per match, averaging just over four saves per game. She also ranks in the top-10 of the ASUN in total saves.
