Amelia Jacobs’ hat trick sets the stage for huge win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Jacksonville State soccer scored six goals en route to a 6-0 victory over the Alabama State Hornets on Friday night in Montgomery. The Gamecocks improve to 5-2-2 on the year while the Hornets fall to 0-7-1.

The night was highlighted by Amelia Jacobs' hat-trick, which also stands as the only multi-goal game of her career.

Jacobs scored the first two goals of the match, starting with a goal in the 10th minute, which was assisted by Kaia Elverum, then with an unassisted goal in the 17th minute to put the Gamecocks up 2-0 before the 20 minute mark.

Lily Cornwell scored the first goal of her career in the 37th minute, when she was able to get the ball past the keeper whole surrounded by a large group just outside the box. The Gamecocks led 3-0 after her goal and at the end of the first half.

Jax State ended the first half with 13 shots compared to ASU's three.

In the 48th minute, Emma Reeder opened up play with her second goal of the season, assisted by Louise Featherstone. Five minutes and two seconds later, Jacobs had the third goal of the night to complete her first-career hat trick.

Reeder scored the final goal of the night in the 59th minute, setting up the Gamecocks with a 6-0 lead, and the eventual final.
