Soccer Battles to Draw at Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Jax State soccer team came away from Southern Miss with a 1-1 draw after a late goal by Michelle Hochstadt. The tie takes both Jax State and USM's records to 1-2-2. The all-time series moves to 1-1-1 for the Gamecocks.
In the first half of action, neither team could find the twine. The Gamecocks had two shots and three corners, and the Golden Eagles had eight shots and three corners. Neither team had a shot on goal in the first half, and the majority of the first half was spent around midfield.
The second half was a different story. USM broke the tie with a goal from Zara Werema, assisted by Olivia Tribolet at the 70' mark. The Gamecocks continued to pressure and attack from the midfield. Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga led the Gamecocks in shots (3) and shots on goal (2).
After 11 second half shots, Michelle Hochstadt scored her second goal in as many games, with an absolute strike from way outside the box, for the Gamecocks equalizer.
Jax State will take on North Florida at the Jax State Soccer Complex this Sunday at noon. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
