BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Jax State soccer team fell 4-1 against the Samford Bulldogs. Jax State falls to 0-2-1 on the season, and Samford improves to 3-0-2.
The first half was very even. Jax State had six shots and three corners to Samford's eight shots and one corner. Jax State had multiple chances with a few free kicks right outside the box but couldn't capitalize on those opportunities. At the 32' mark, Alyssa Tutas scored for Samford to break the 0-0 tie.
In the second half, the Bulldogs dominated, scoring three goals in eleven minutes to start the second half. In total, Samford put up 18 shots with eight corners in the second half.
Sunny Ferren assisted a pass to Emma Reeder who took one touch and then found the back of the net to get the Gamecocks on the board at the 78' mark.
Ella Holmberg had seven saves, and Kristen Rudge had four saves to combine for 11 saves on the evening.
Jax State will face Troy at 4:00 on Sunday back home in Jacksonville. The Gamecocks will look to make it two wins in a row against the Trojans.
