Soccer Returns Home to Take on Alabama State

JACKSONVILLE – The Jax State soccer team will take on the Alabama State Hornets on Sunday, September 13, at 5:00 pm at the Jax State Soccer Complex. The Gamecocks are 1-4-2, and the Hornets are 0-6-1. Jax State leads the all-time series, 12-0-0 and this will be the sixth-straight season these teams meet.
The first match-up was in 2008, when Jax State hosted Alabama State and won 12-0. The Hornets have had two big chances to find their first wins in the series, in 2013 and 2019, when they took the Gamecocks into double OT.
The Gamecocks will rely on leading scorer Emma Reeder, along with Sunny Ferren, who leads the squad in assists, to lead the attack. Reeder has scored four goals in the last five games, while Ferren has had an assist in two of the last three games.
Alabama State's attack is led by Tamami Nishio who has two goals and a .500 shot on goal percentage. The Hornets have had a hard time scoring this year, but when they have been able to score, they have a 0-1-1 record.
