2011: Appeared in 19 games for the Gamecocks as a junior and started two…drove in five runs as the team’s primary pinch hitter and backup catcher…made her Division I debut vs. Alabama State on Feb. 11 and wet 1-for-1 with an RBI…drove in two runs two days later against Auburn…also had two RBI vs. Samford on March 8.
PRIOR TO JSU: Played two seasons for Greg Shivers at Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City, Ala…was a first team all-region performer as a freshman in 2009 after batting .329 with 13 doubles, eight home runs, 31 RBI and 25 walks, while posting a .983 fielding percentage behind the plate…as a sophomore, hit .277 with four home runs and 27 RBI, while drawing a team-high 37 walks.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played four seasons for coach Jennifer Brown at Vestavia Hills High School in Vestavia Hills, Ala…was a first team all-state performer as a senior in 2008 after guiding the Rebels to a 51-15 record…tied the state record for home runs in a game, was named team captain and defensive MVP, while also garnering first team all-metro and Super All-Metro honors…played travel softball for The Zone and The Vipers.
PERSONAL: Born on August 22, 1989, in Birmingham, Ala…the daughter of Gene and Kim Matchen…has a younger brother, Daniel Matchen…uncle Keith Maple played football for the Gamecocks…is majoring in physical education at JSU.
