CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Ryan Perrilloux ran for a score and threw for another, while the Gamecocks had two players rush for more than 100 yards to lead Jacksonville State (2-1) to a 31-3 victory over Chattanooga (1-3) in front of 8,240 at Finley Stadium Davenport Field on Saturday.
Tremayne Coger rushed for 123 yards on 16 carries, while Daniel Jackson added 111 yards on 17 carries as the Gamecocks had two players go over the century mark for the first time since the 2003 season.
“I thought the difference in the game was our ability to run the ball, while our defense was able to stop them from running it,” said JSU head coach Jack Crowe following the game. “I was really proud of the fact that we didn't let them run the ball and held them to just 72 yards.”
Jax State rolled up 481 yards of offense, including 322 yards on the ground, and did not commit a turnover. Perrilloux finished 12-for-24 for 122 yards with one passing touchdown and had 31 rushing yards and another score to lead the Gamecock offense.
Gavin Hallford gave JSU a 3-0 lead with 6:51 left in the first quarter as the senior All-American kicked a 35-yard field goal after the Gamecocks went 63 yards in 13 plays to take the early lead.
Jax State struck again on its next possession, driving 72 yards in nine plays to score its first touchdown of the night. Perrilloux split the Mocs' defense for a 35-yard touchdown run and a 10-0 advantage with 24 seconds to go in the first quarter.
A.J. Davis's second interception of the first half gave JSU the ball at the JSU 48 and the Gamecocks took advantage by going 52 yards in seven plays. Perrilloux hit Maruice Dupree for a 17-yard touchdown pass in the back of the endzone to give JSU a 17-0 lead with 7:28 left in the second quarter. Dupree would finish the night with a career-high 95 receiving yards and tied a career mark with two touchdown receptions.
JSU's third interception of the first half came courtesy of Jawaan Booker's first career interception to set up JSU's next score. John Houston Whiddon took a pitch from Perrilloux and found a wide open Dupree for a 37-yard touchdown pass to give JSU a 24-0 lead at the half.
UTC cracked the scoreboard on its first possession of the second half when Craig Camay made a 43-yard field goal to cut the lead to 24-3 with 8:39 left in the third, but the Mocs would get no closer.
Coger added one-yard touchdown run with 5:09 left in the game for the final margin.
The Gamecocks open Ohio Valley Conference play next Saturday by traveling to Eastern Illinois. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at O'Brien Stadium between the preseason No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the OVC.

A.J. Davis got JSU's first interception of the season with 12:12 left in the first quarter. It was his first career interception and the first since Nov. 3, 2007, in the fourth quarter against Samford (Terrell Johnson). It had been 16 quarters since the Gamecocks had an interception.

Ryan Perrilloux had a 35-yard touchdown run with :24 left in the first quarter, which was the longest rushing touchdown of his career and also his longest career rush.

Gavin Hallford moved into second place on JSU's career PAT Kicks Attempted list after kicking his third PAT of the game with 4:51 left in the second quarter. He now has 136 career PAT attempts and trails only Slade Stinnett (188).
