Gamecocks Complete Weekend Sweep of Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jacksonville State completed the weekend sweep of Lipscomb in its return to the ASUN with a 6-3 win on Sunday over the Bisons at Joe Dugan Field.

The Gamecocks, jump atop the ASUN West standings after the first weekend of league action as the only team to sweep the first three games of the 30-game conference slate. JSU improved to 7-10 overall, while LU fall to 10-10 on the season. The sweep was JSU's first road sweep since taking all three from UT Martin last season.

Two run-scoring innings for the Gamecocks and Jax State's ability to limit LU single runs in three innings. For the third time on the weekend, JSU rallied from a deficit as the Bisons pushed a run across the plate in the second inning. Jax State answered with a three-run third inning that was highlighted by a three-run blast over the right field wall by junior Carson Crowe. The inning started with the first of two hits by senior Isaac Alexander. After junior T.J. Reeves reached on a fielder's choice, Crowe crushed a pitch from LU's Ike Buxton, who suffered the loss. It was his third home run of the season.

JSU extended its lead in the fourth with Alexander's two-RBI single, scoring both Gamecocks that reached via hit-by-pitch.

Sophomore Camden Lovrich turned in a solid outing with five complete innings. LU touched him for eight hits, but he battled in the outing to get ground ball outs. As a staff, JSU induced 11 ground ball outs. Lovrich secured his first win of the season in his fifth appearance of the season. Jax State called upon sophomore Reid Fagerstorm out of the bullpen for 0.2 innings. For the second consecutive day, Dylan Hathcock covered the next 2.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Freshman AJ Causey closed the contest out for the second straight day to pick up his third save of the season and second of the weekend.

Reeves joined Alexander as the two Gamecocks with multiple hits in the contest. He now has seven multi-hit games on the season and extended his hitting streak to six games. Reeves has now reached base in six consecutive games.

The Gamecocks will spend spring break with a busy slate of games. JSU will host in-state rival Samford on Tuesday evening on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.
