Bears Force Sunday Rubber Contest With 11-9 Win

CONWAY, Ark. – Central Arkansas evened the ASUN West Division weekend series with an 11-9 win on Saturday at Bear Stadium on the UCA campus.

The two clubs will play the rubber game of the weekend set on Sunday at 1 p.m. the game will be streamed on ESPN+ and carried on the Gamecock Sports Network. The loss dropped JSU to 13-15 overall and 7-4 in the ASUN West Division, while UCA improved to 12-17 on the season and an identical 7-4 mark in the division.

No lead was safe on Saturday as the lead changed hands four different times. Jax State erased a 3-0 deficit with a four-run fourth after it strung together five hits, highlighted by junior Carson Crowe's two-run home run just inside the right field foul pole. After UCA answered JSU's big inning with two runs, it was Crowe again with the big hit in the fifth with a three-run blast to right center. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native finished with three hits and five RBI. Crowe became the first Gamecock to have a pair of home runs in a game Alex Webb delivered two home runs against Eastern Kentucky on April 17, 2021.

JSU's T.J. Reeves got back on track after having his 15-game on-base streak snapped on Friday night. Reeves joined Crowe with three hits in the game, including a leadoff home run to start the seventh. Senior Cole Frederick added two hits, while senior Alex Strachan added an RBI. Freshman AJ Causey recorded an RBI in JSU's four-run fourth.

Senior Dylan Hathcock was saddled with the loss out of the bullpen after two innings of work. The Gamecocks' starter Tanner Jones went three innings, while senior Trey Fortner finished the game with three innings.

Jax State will make a change in the Sunday starting role on the mound with Jake Peppers making his weekend rotation debut. He will be making his fourth start of the season.
