JACKSONVILLE – The Jax State soccer team travels to Miami to take on the FIU Panthers for a Conference USA match to finish out a two-match road trip. The Gamecocks are coming off a 1-1 draw at Missouri State on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the Gamecocks' first conference point of the season.
Jax State is 3-6-3 (0-1-1 in CUSA play) on the season while FIU is 3-5-3 (0-2). The Gamecocks leading scorer, Emma Reeder, scored her seventh goal of the season on Thursday to tie the match and secure a point for the Gamecocks. Reeder is a top-three goal scorer in CUSA, with the second-most goals in the league behind Kennesaw State's Anabel Orozco and Middle Tennessee's Ania Denham, who both have eight.
The Gamecocks will rely on Reeder and also Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga to control the offense and rely on Reagan Whitaker to hold down the back line. Whitaker has been the rock of the defense and the Gamecocks will need her to continue to do so.
FIU is led by Yuzu Tanida, who has three goals on the season, and Maya Maxwell, who has two goals and three assists. They are both goal threats and Maxwell is their best passer. The Panthers keeper, Valery Restrepo has been outstanding this season with 40 saves and only allowing 1.27 goals per game.
The game will be played at Leyva Family Field at 1:00 p.m. eastern, noon central. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
