Gamecocks and Tigers meet in the regular season for the first time in 20 years
JACKSONVILLE — Jax State soccer will take on the SEC's Auburn Tigers for a Sunday night contest in Auburn, Alabama. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
This is the third-straight season the Gamecocks will take on a team from the Southeastern Conference. In 2024, Jax State took on Kentucky, and faced Mississippi State last season.
This is only the eighth time that the two programs will meet, and the first time in 20 years that they meet during the regular season. Auburn holds a 5-2 lead in the all-time series, with Jax State's victories coming in back-to-back meetings in 1998 (2-1) and 1999 (1-0).
Both teams arrive into the match with one result under their belts, both with a tie. Jax State hosted West Georgia on Wednesday evening, scoring a goal in the 86th minute to even up the match. Amelia Jacobs found Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga, who netting her first goal of the season, as well as Jax State's first of the year, to secure the draw. Auburn and Clemson battled to a 0-0 draw to open the season earlier this week in Auburn.
Jax State registered 20 shots in back-to-back season openers with 20 shots against West Georgia. The Gamecocks' 13 shots on goal were the most in a match since a 7-1 victory over Alabama State in 2024, where the Gamecocks tallied 37 total shots and 21 on target.
This match has a little more of a family feel to it for a couple of Jax State's student-athletes. Amelia Jacobs and Raegan Whitaker had sisters who played for Auburn. Hailey Whitaker played for the Tigers from 2018 - 2022, finishing her career with the second-most games played in an Auburn career and seventh in games started. Abby Jacobs began her career at Auburn and played from 2018 - 2021 with the Tigers, before playing her final three seasons at South Alabama, where Amelia began her career.
