Soccer Returns to Action Thursday at Samford

JACKSONVILLE – After an extended break, the Jax State soccer team gets back into action against the Samford Bulldogs in Birmingham. The match is schedule for Thursday, August 27, at 6 p.m., and will be the second consecutive Thursday night meeting between the two teams.
Jax State comes into this match-up with a record of 0-1-1, coming off a 5-0 loss to Auburn and a 1-1 draw to UWG. In those two games, the Gamecocks put up 24 shots, and 12 shots per game, which is the third-best in the conference.
Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga has led the attack this season for the Gamecocks, with two points and four shots, and Amelia Jacobs is right behind her with one point and three shots.
The Bulldogs, with a 2-0-2 record, had an impressive 0-0 draw against the then-No. 2 team in the country, Notre Dame. Samford's goalie, Peyton Hull, leads the SoCon in shutouts this year with three.
Samford has won the previous six matches against the Gamecocks, and Jax State's only win came in Birmingham, 2-1, in 2012.
The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm from Shauna Yelton Field, and it will be televised on ESPN+. Fans can also follow along with live stats.
