Soccer Faces Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on Thursday

JACKSONVILLE – The Jax State soccer team travels to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to play Southern Miss for the third time in school history. The series is tied at one with each, with the host team winning each game. The Gamecocks and the Golden Eagles are both 1-2-1 on the season.
The first meeting between these two teams was back in 2005, when Jax State won 2-0. The two squads played again in 2011, and Southern Miss tied the series up, winning 2-0. This will be the first match-up in the last 15 years for these teams
Emma Reeder had a phenomenal week last week scoring a pair of goals, one in each game. She sparked the Gamecocks offensive, which scored five goals last week and four in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Troy on Sunday. In that match, Sunny Ferren contributed an assist and a goal, Evie Underhill bolstered the lead to 3-1, and Michelle Hochstadt broke the 3-3 stalemate with an Olimpico off of her corner kick to secure the win for Jax State.
The Southern Miss attack is led by Ava Bynes who has found the back of the net three times so far this year, and Ryan Smith who has assisted on two goals. The Golden Eagles won their season opener against Alabama State, but have not found a win since then, falling in back-to-back matches to McNeese and Mississppi State. Most recently, Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana tied 2-2 in Hattiesburg.
The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm from the Marshall Bell Track and Field/Soccer Complex in Hattiesburg, and it will be broadcast on ESPN+.
