JSU OUTLOOK: Is one of the leaders on the defensive side of the ball…enters the fall as the starter at defensive end…showed great improvement throughout spring practice…is a leader both on and off the field.

JSU CAREER
2010: Started all 12 games at defensive end for the Gamecocks as a junior…a First Team All-OVC selection, recorded 37 tackles, 24 of which were solo, including 6.5 for a loss…led the team and was 15th in the OVC with four sacks, while also recording a quarterback hurry and one fumble recovery…opened the season with five tackles and a sack against Ole Miss, while also posting a tackle for a loss of six yards in the overtime win...finished the Murray State game with three tackles, including a stop behind the line of scrimmage...made four stops against Tennessee State...assisted on one tackle and a sack against Austin Peay...tallied five tackles along with a stop for a loss and recovered a fumble against SEMO...tallied a career-high seven tackles, including 3.5 stops for a loss and a pair of sacks at Tennessee Tech…capped the year with a season-high eight tackles, six solo and one for a loss, in the Gamecocks’ playoff game vs. Wofford.

2009: Played in all 11 and started five of the Gamecocks’ games as a sophomore…ranked third in the OVC and tied for 22nd nationally with .27 fumbles forced per game…totaled 21 tackles on the year, including 5.5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks…forced a total of three fumbles and was credited with three QB hurries…had an assisted tackle in the season opener against Georgia Tech (9/5)...credited with two tackles, a sack and two fumbles forced at Florida State (9/12)...had three tackles, two for loss, and a quarterback hurry in his first career start at Alabama A&M (9/19)...recorded four tackles that included three solo and one behind the line in the Eastern Illinois game (10/24)...had six tackles, three solo, and a tackle for loss at Austin Peay (10/31)...had three tackles and a tackle for loss against Tennessee Tech (11/14).

2008: Played in 11 games as a reserve defensive end...had 23 tackles, nine solos, five tackles for loss and a sack…registered three quarterback hurries, forced one fumble and blocked two kicks…posted three tackles and blocked a kick versus Murray State (10/18)…recorded season-high four tackles against Tennessee Tech (11/8) and Tennessee State (11/15)…registered two tackles for loss against Chattanooga (9/20)… had a sack and forced a fumble against Southeast Missouri State (10/4)…

2007: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Rico White at Abbeville High School…was named team Most Valuable Offensive Lineman as a senior and also Most Valuable Defensive Lineman in 2006…finished his senior year with 78 tackles and 12 sacks…was an All-State Honorable Mention…had 12 tackles and four sacks versus Dale County…named to the Dothan Eagle Elite team…also lettered in baseball…was an honor student and Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

PERSONAL: Full name is Monte Lewis…son of Annie Allen and Darrell Lewis…born on Oct. 14, 1988…majoring technology.
