JACKSONVILLE –
Amanda Crow and
Kristin Graham each hit home runs to lead Jacksonville State to an 8-3 win over Tennessee Tech as the Gamecocks swept the Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader on Wednesday after JSU earned a 3-2 win in the opener.
Jacksonville State improves to 33-11 overall and 18-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Tech drops to 16-23, 7-13 in the conference.
In the opener,
Tiffany Harbin scattered five hits and had five strikeouts in the complete-game win to earn her first win of the day. Whitney Cummings (5-9) got stuck with the loss for the Golden Eagles after walking five batters, despite just allowing one hit during two innings in the circle.
Tech took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after Chanelle Spalding led off the inning with a solo home run to give the Golden Eagles the lead.
Jax State answered in the fourth inning after
Sallie Beth Burch led off with a double down the left field line and
Hayden Crawford followed with a double to score Burch and tie the game at 1-1.
Tess Echols then bunted home Crawford with a sacrifice to give the Gamecocks a 2-1 lead.
Tennessee Tech tied the game in the fifth inning on a RBI single by Brittney Spalding, but the Gamecocks scored the winning run in the home half of the sixth inning.
Krystal Ruth walked to lead of the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt before
Kristin Graham walked and Amanda Crowe was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Abbey Stepp then walked to score Ruth and give the Gamecocks a 3-2 lead.

Kaycee Crow and Burch each had a hit for the Gamecocks, while Melody Christian had two of Tech's five hits.
In the second game, Harbin pitched the final 4 2/3 innings in relief and allowed just three hits to improve to 21-5 on the season for the Gamecocks. Thomas gave up all eight runs and walked six to get stuck with the loss for the Golden Eagles.
Tech took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run home run by Cummings, but the Gamecocks answered in the home half of the second after Crowe hit her 14th home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
The Golden Eagles then took the lead in the third on a RBI single by Schmidt, before the Gamecocks battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the third after Graham slugged a solo home run to left field to make the score 3-3.
Jax State took the lead for good in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Ruth before Johnston had a two-RBI double to left field to give the Gamecocks a 6-3 lead.
Jacksonville State then added two insurance runs in the sixth inning after Crawford doubled in both runs for the final margin.
Ruth and Echols each finished with a pair of hits to lead the Gamecocks, while Cummings led Tennessee Tech with one hit and two RBI.
Jacksonville State returns to action with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at UT Martin this weekend.
