Bishop's Ninth Inning Homer Leads Gamecocks to 3-2 Win

FINAL STATS

JACKSONVILLE – Michael Bishop hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead Jacksonville State to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over North Florida at Rudy Abbott Field on Sunday.

Todd Hornsby (1-0) picked up the win in relief after allowing just one hit over the final two innings. Tyler Moore (0-1) suffered the loss for the Ospreys.

With the Gamecocks (1-4) trailing 2-1 headed to the bottom of the ninth inning, Kyle Bluestein had a one-out single to right field. After UNF recorded the second out of the inning, Bishop came up and hit the second pitch he saw over the left centerfield fence for the game-winner. It marks the second career walk-off game winning hit for Bishop, a sophomore from Pelham, and it gave Jax State its first win of the season.

North Florida (4-3) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning  on a RBI single by Tyler Marincov, but Jax State tied the game in the fifth inning.

Bluestein led off the inning with a single through the left side and Bishop followed with a one-out single to left center. Kyle Stone walked to load the bases and Coty Blanchard then drew a bases loaded walk to score Bluestein and tie the game at 1-1.

The Ospreys answered in the sixth inning as Marincov drove in his second run of the game on a single up the middle to chase JSU starter Bradley Raulston from the game. Raulston pitched 5 2/3 innings, scattering six hits and allowing two runs in his first start of the season for the Gamecocks.

Bluestein led Jax State with three hits, while Bishop finished with two hits. Erik Underwood extended his hitting streak to four games with a single up the middle in the first inning.

Drew Weeks and Marincov each had two hits to lead North Florida at the plate.

Jacksonville State returns to action with a pair of midweek games against UAB. Tuesday's game is set for 3 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field, while Wednesday game will be played in Birmingham at 3 p.m.
