Gamecocks Win Ninth Straight OVC Series After Claiming 8-7 Win Over SEMO

JACKSONVILLE – Kyle Bluestein had three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead Jacksonville State to an 8-7 win over Southeast Missouri State as the Gamecocks claimed their ninth straight Ohio Valley Conference series on Sunday.
 
Travis Stout (5-1) allowed just one hit in 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win, while Todd Hornsby recorded the final three outs to pick up his 10th save of the year. Ryan Prickett (1-1) suffered the loss after giving up five hits and three runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
 
The Redhawks (17-32, 8-13 OVC) got on the board quickly as Trenton Moses hit his 18th homerun of the season in the first inning for a 1-0 lead, but the Gamecocks answered in the home half of the first.
 
Kyle Stone scored on Ben Waldrip's sacrifice fly and Bluestein followed with a RBI single to give Jax State a 2-1 lead.
 
Southeast took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning after Kody Campbell hit a two-run home run, his seventh of the season. Campbell led the Redhawks with three hits on the day, while Derek Gibson finished with two hits.
 
Jax State tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth after Erik Underwood was hit by a pitch and Cal Lambert followed with a double to right center to score Underwood from first. Michael Bishop then scored a run in the fifth inning on Eberle's RBI single to give JSU a 4-3 lead.
 
Southeast scored three runs in the sixth inning, thanks to a two-RBI double by Jason Blum, and a pinch-hit RBI single by Cody Spanberger to give the Redhawks a 6-4 lead.
 
The Gamecocks got a run back in the sixth after Lambert hit his second double of the game to score Erik Underwood and cut the lead to 6-5, but Gibson hit a RBI triple for SEMO in the seventh for a 7-5 lead.
 
Jacksonville State then scored three runs – all with two outs – in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead for good. Waldrip, Bluestein and Underwood each drove in a run during the inning for the final margin.
 
Bluestein led the Gamecocks with three hits, while Stone, Eberle and Lambert each had two hits.
 
Jacksonville State returns to action on Wednesday as the Gamecocks travel to face UAB. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Young-Memorial Field.
