JSU OUTLOOK: Brings a tremendous amount of leadership and knowledge to the team…can play several positions on the offensive line.
JSU CAREER
2010: Received a medical redshirt after missing the season with a knee injury.
2009: Played in all 11 games at left guard for the Gamecocks as a sophomore and was in the starting lineup in nine of them…was a big part in guiding the JSU to lead the OVC in total offense and rushing yards per game…was on the field for 358 plays and graded out at 63 percent…recorded 46 knockdowns and 11 pancake blocks, while giving up just one sack.
2008: Played and started in all 11 games as a true freshman…played 666 plays with 420 positive plays for 63 percent…graded 74 percent on pass plays and only allowed one sack…had 10 pancake blocks and 67 knockdowns…had a season-best grade of 72 percent against Murray State (10/18)…recorded 11 knockdown blocks against Alabama A&M (9/6).
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for JSU alum Rush Propst at Hoover High School…was a
Second-Team All-State selection as a senior after helping the Bucs advance to the Class 6A Championship game…was a First-Team All-Area and All-Region selection after recording 52 pancake blocks and allowing just one sack in 2007…was selected for the Alabama All-Star game in 2007…finished his career with more than 80 pancake blocks and allowed only five sacks…was a member of the 2005 Class 6A State Championship team.
PERSONAL: Full name is Matthew David Jones…son of Daniel and Cindy Jones…born on Nov. 6, 1989…has one older sister, Jordan…majoring in pre-business.
