Biography

JSU CAREER
2009: Sat out the season as a redshirt after getting injured in the season-opener at Georgia Tech…2008: Appeared in 10 of the Gamecocks’ 11 games as a junior, earning the start against Alabama A&M on Sept. 6…caught nine passes for 142 yards, an average of 15.8 yards per catch that ranked third on the squad…returned one kickoff for 11 yards and five punts for a total of 14 yards…had one rush for four yards…caught one pass for six yards versus Tennessee State (11/15)...had one reception for five yards against Murray State (10/18)...tied a career-high with three catches for 27 yards against Eastern Kentucky (10/11)...threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Maurice Dupree against Chattanooga (9/20)...caught one pass for a career-long 75 yards that eventually led to JSU’s final touchdown against Alabama A&M (9/6)...made his first appearance in a JSU uniform after transferring from Florida International...caught three passes for 29 yards with a long of 19.

OTHER COLLEGE: Played two years at Florida International…as a freshman in 2006, appeared in all 12 games as a receiver and in punt and kick return situations…finished with 11 catches for 111 yards, including a career-long 22-yard reception at Florida Atlantic…grabbed his first intercollegiate catch for nine yards in the season-opener vs Middle Tennessee…finished among the top 10 on the team with 15.1 all-purpose yards per game…as a sophomore in 2007, saw action in just four games and had just one catch for four yards, which came against Middle Tennessee.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for John Hicks at Niceville High School…was a Class 5A all-State and All-Northwest Florida selection as a senior after leading his area with 49 catches for 827 yards and 11 touchdowns…was a member of the Panhandle All-Star team…earned second-team All-State honors as a junior and was a first-team All-Northwest Florida and Big Play Award winner in 2004…finished his career with more than 175 catches and 2,300 yards…holds the school record for career receptions and career receiving yards…also lettered in wrestling, track and baseball…was an honor student.

PERSONAL: Full name is John Houston Whiddon…son of Paul and Lynn Whiddon…born on November 17, 1987…has one older brother, Tommy Joe, that played football at JSU and is currently a gradate assistant coach at Auburn University…majoring in physical education at JSU.
