Biography

JSU CAREER:
2009: Saw action in all 11 games for the Gamecocks as a junior and earned the starting nod in three…an OVC All-Newcomer selection, was second on the team and 13th in the OVC in rushing with 47.5 yards per game, while running for four touchdowns, also third on the squad…hauled in 15 passes out of the backfield for 147 yards and two scores, while scoring his seventh touchdown of the year on one of his four kickoff returns…rushed five times for 25 yards and had three receptions for 14 yards in his JSU debut against Georgia Tech (9/5)...caught two passes for 34 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown catch to put JSU up 6-0 at Florida State (9/12)...had seven rushing attempts for 58 yards at Alabama A&M (9/19)...had a season and career high 12 rushes for 65 yards and caught three passes for 22 yards at Nicholls State (9/26)...had two kickoff returns for 130 yards, returning his first career kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown versus Nicholls State to earn OVC Newcomer of the Week honors...accounted for three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving while leading JSU with 11 carries for 72 yards and catching three passes for 49 yards and at Murray State (10/10)...rushed nine times for 33 yards against Eastern Illinois (10/24)...had 16 carries for 68 yards and caught one pass for nine yards at Austin Peay (10/31)...rushed seven times for 26 yards against Southeast Missouri State (11/7)...rushed for a season-high 93-yards on 10 carries, including a 48-yard touchdown run against Tennessee Tech (11/14)...ran seven times for 28 yards and a touchdown, while catching two passes for 16 yards against Eastern Kentucky (11/21).

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played for Steve Campbell at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College…was a first-team All-South state selection after rushing for 1,081 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore in 2008…helped the Bulldogs win the National Championship his freshman year after rushing for more than 300 yards and a touchdown…finished his two-year career with 1,336 yards and eight touchdowns.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played at Lanier High School for Elbert Smith and Willie Young…was a second-team All-Region selection…finished his four-year career with more than 4,000 all-purpose yards and 28 touchdowns…was an honor student…named to the National Honor Society – Mu Alpha Theta.

PERSONAL: Full name is Jamal Le’Eric Young…son of Eric and Jamelia Young…born on September 18, 1987…has one younger sister, Jaerica…majoring in Criminal Justice at JSU.
