Biography

JSU CAREER: 2016:  Started the final eight games of the season and appeared in all 12…credited with 20 tackles on the season…recorded 2.5 tackles for loss, including 1.0 sacks…had seven quarterback hurries…had at least one tackle in 10 games…recorded a season-high four tackles against Eastern Illinois on Oct. 29…credited with 0.5 sacks against Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky…recorded multiple quarterback hurries against Eastern Kentucky and Southeast Missouri…named to the CoSIDA’s Academic All-District Team.

2015:  Played in 14 of JSU’s 15 games, making three starts…recorded a pair of unassisted tackles at No. 6 Auburn and had a season-high five takedowns at UT Martin on Sept. 26…recovered an onside kick in the first half of the semifinal contest against Sam Houston State…creditied with one tackle against NDSU in the national championship…finished the season with a career-high 23 tackles, with 17 coming against OVC foes.

2014: Saw action as a true freshman in seven games for the Gamecocks, including six Ohio Valley Conference games…turned in back-to-back games with three tackles in each contest against Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay…registered a a sack in the Tech contest…finished the season with seven total tackles with 2.5 stops for a loss…credited with a sack against Eastern Kentucky.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played at Vestavia Hills for legendary coach Buddy Anderson…helped the Rebels to back-to-back Region Championships…team finished 11-3 and lost in the state semifinals…was a first team All-State selection as a senior…was All-Area and All-Region…finished his senior year with 88 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, with 10 sacks and 13 quarterback hurries to earn Metro Defensive Player of the Year honors by The Birmingham News…earned All-American honors as a wrestler and finished in the top seven at the state meet each year of his career…finished second in Class 6A at 220 pounds as a junior to earn first-team All-State honors…chose Jax State over Western Kentucky, South Alabama, Wake Forest and Murray State.

PERSONAL: Full name is Dalton Garrett-Avery Campbell…was born on May 2, 1996…is the son of Mimi and Kyle Campbell…dad was a four-year letterwinner at JSU from 1986-89…has two older sisters, Alissa and Amanda, and a younger brother , Dillon…majoring in industrial management at JSU.
