SUMMER BASEBALL: Played for Joshua Hulin and the Xenia Scouts of the Great Lakes League in 2010 with JSU teammate Jay Davis.
JSU CAREER:
(2011) Made 19 appeances, all out of the bullpen, as a sophomore…posted a 1-0 record and one save with a 4.70 ERA…tossed 15.1 innings, allowing 16 hits, 11 runs, eight earned runs with 12 strikeouts to just one walk…in six OVC appearances, allowed just one run…led team as opponent leadoff hitters were just 1-for-12 (.083) against the left-hander…had 10 appearances where he did not allow a hit, and three more with just one hit…issued his only walk of the season at Tennessee Tech (4/2)…had two strikeouts vs Troy (4/12) in 2.1 innings of relief to earn first career win…had his longest outing of the season vs Austin Peay, where he gave up three hits, but also had two strikeouts…did not allow a run in his next five straight outings…picked up his first career save at Eastern Illnois (5/8) after pitching a scorless final frame.
(2010) Made 18 appearances, all in relief, as a true freshman…posted an 0-1 record with a 5.27 ERA…tossed 13.2 innings, allowing 13 hits, nine runs, eight earned runs with seven strikeouts to just one walk…made his JSU debut against Michigan (2/19), allowing just one hit in 1.0 innings on the mound…recorded a career-high two strikeouts in 1.0 inning of work against Southern Illinois (2/27)…had his longest outing of the season against Eastern Michigan (3/12), working 2.0 innings and allowed just one hit with one strikeout…did not allow a hit in nine of his appearances and only three in six of his final eight…left-handers hit just .160, which was the lowest on the team.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played at Pleasant Valley High School for Kyle Hunter…was a four-year letterman…posted a 7-2 record as a senior with a 1.82 ERA and was named to the All-County squad…team captain…helped the Raiders to the state playoffs his sophomore and junior years…selected to the East-West All-Star game…also lettered in football, where he was an All-County kicker.
PERSONAL: Cody Ethan Ponder…son of Donny and Jane Ponder…born on Nov. 21, 1990…has one older sister, Krystle…lists the Boston Red Sox as his favorite Major League Team and Mariano Rivera as his favorite player…major is undeclared at JSU.
