Biography

JSU CAREER:
(2017): Tossed 73 innings in 16 starts in his second year as a Gamecock … complied a 2-7 record while striking out 75 batters and issuing only 32 walks … surrendered 81 hits, 57 runs and 46 earned runs … JSU posted a 4-6 mark in OVC games started by Pate … earned co-OVC Pitcher of the Week honors following a career-best 14-strikeout game against Eastern Illinois on March 18, 2017 when he scattered three Panther hits, two walks over seven scoreless innings … 14-strikeout performance was most by a JSU pitcher since Bill White fanned 15 against Samford during the 2000 season.

(2016): One of six new faces on the JSU pitching staff and making the transition from junior college to Division I quickly, earning a start on the opening weekend of the season against Valparaiso (2/21)…also made starts in the first four weekends of the season - Kennesaw State (2/28), Western Kentucky (3/6) and SIU Edwardsville (3/12)…tossed five complete innings against WKU and struck out a season-best four…returned to a starting role in a midweek contest with UAB and picked up a win after five innings of work…bounced back to top Kennesaw State (4/19) with another solid five innings on the bump…allowed two runs, one earned on four hits and struck out three Owls…tabbed the starter against Belmont (4/30) and at South Alabama (4/5)…finished his first season in a JSU uniform with 42.0 innings pitched and accumulated 31 strikeouts.

PRIOR TO JSU: Played on season for head coach Steve Lewis at Central Alabama CC.

HIGH SCHOOL: Spent one year at Coosa Valley Academy, but began and finished playing at Lincoln High…played for coaches Bobby Permenter and Jay Gibson…2014 first team all-state and 2-time first team all-region selection…pitched two no-hitters with a 7-0 record as a senior…also played football where he was an all-state receiver scoring 23 touchdowns.

PERSONAL: Full name Anthony Colton Pate…born on Jan. 29, 1996 in Lincoln, Ala…the son of Anthony and Connie Pate…has two older sisters, Ashleigh and Lauren…majoring in sports management at JSU.
