JSU CAREER:
(2016): Had a breakout junior campaign at the plate and at third base for JSU in 2016…posted a .330 batting average in 43 starts…tied for second on the team in home runs with Paschal Petrongolo with 10 home runs…added 15 doubles and a pair of triples…his 15 doubles helped the Gamecocks lead the nation in doubles per game (2.50) and third in Division I baseball with 145 total doubles…was a two-time Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week winner after remarkable OVC weekend against Austin Peay and Murray State…he picked up the first honor on March 21 after putting together an 8-for-15 week at the plate, including four extra base hits to help JSU to four wins during the week… hit .533 with four runs scored, four doubles, a triple, five RBI, a .933 slugging percentage and .529 on-base percentage…concluded the week with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double, triple and five RBI in the team's 25-12 victory over the Govs…garnered the second conference award a few weeks later on April 11 after delivering 10 RBI in JSU's series win over Murray State…matched two JSU program records for a single game in the Gamecocks’ 22-7 rout of the Racers to claim the series…belted three home runs and added a double and a single on his stat line on the day and finished 5-for-6 on the day and drove in eight RBI…he matched JSU's all-time record for home runs in a game and equaled the program's Division I record for RBI in a game with his eight runs…became the fifth Gamecock all time to record three home runs in a contest and the first since former JSU standout Ben Waldrip accomplished the feat on April 28, 2012…is the fourth player in JSU's Division I tenure to have three home runs in a game…joins his former high school coach at Etowah High School as Larry Foster was the first Gamecock to hit three round trippers in a game back in 1973 against UAB. Bobo became the fourth Gamecock to register eight home runs on the Division I level and the first since Scott Smith against Eastern Kentucky and versus Alabama that season. Jeff Tidwell (1998) and Roby Brooks (1997) also had eight RBI in a single game…posted a .351 batting average against OVC foes with 11 doubles and seven home runs…drove in 37 runs against OVC competition…solid in the classroom as he earned a spot on the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Baseball Team.
(2015): Made 21 starts throughout the season, including 19 at the shortstop position…saw action in 33 games as a sophomore…finished the season with a .266 batting average with 21 hits in 79 at bats…tallied six doubles and a pair of home runs…had four plate appearances in 10 different games, including a 4-for-4 contest against Kennesaw State and drove in a pair of runs (4/14/15)…both home runs came against Ohio Valley Conference competition – Eastern Illinois (3/21/15) and Belmont (4/24/15)…collected five multiple hit games and a pair of multi-RBI games…member of the 2014-15 OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
(2014): Saw action in 24 games as a freshman in 2014…combined for nine starts at first base and at second base…finished with nine hits, including a double against UAB (3/12)…had 42 plate appearances and scored five runs and drove in three runs…drove in a season-best two runs vs. Troy (3/18)…tallied 12 putouts in a start at first base against Valparaiso (2/22).
HIGH SCHOOL: Played at Etowah High School under former Gamecock All-American Larry Foster…named team MVP senior year…named second team all-state as a senior and first team all-district as a junior and senior…finished his career with a .379 batting average with four home runs and 85 RBI…named an Under Armour Preseason All-American as a junior and senior…batted .400 with two home runs and 39 RBI as a senior.
PERSONAL: Full name is Joshua Tyler Bobo…son of Joe and Lori Bobo…born on May 6, 1995…has one younger brother, Jacob…was the salutatorian of his senior class…lists the New York Yankees as his favorite Major League Baseball team and Mike Napoli as his favorite player…english major at JSU.
