2009 OUTLOOK: A big, strong player that has improved himself on the mound tremendously…had a lot of success coming out of the bullpen, but may be asked to be in the starting rotation at some point this season…has a bright future on the mound and coaches expect to reap the benefits of that this season…has a good left-handed bat that could be a factor in the line-up, but hasn’t been used much as a hitter because of his importance on the mound.
SUMMER BASEBALL: Played in the Texas Collegiate League with JSU teammates Todd Cunningham and Jake Sharrock…posted a 5-2 record with a 3.20 earned run average…had the most wins of any pitcher in the summer league.
JSU CAREER: (2008) As a true freshman, made 22 appearances and recorded three starts…posted a 1-1 record in 53.1 innings on the mound…allowed 71 hits, 58 runs, 48 earned runs, while recording 43 strikeouts and walking 29 batters…made his collegiate debut on 2/23 vs Middle Tennessee, where he pitched 2.2 innings, allowing nine hits, four runs, two walks and one strikeout…had a season-high four strikeouts three times, vs Millsaps (2/27), at Northwestern State (3/9) and at Austin Peay (3/29)…earned his first career start on 4/5 at Samford, where he did not earn a decision in 5.0 innings, allowing five hits, five runs (all earned), with three walks and three strikeouts…picked up his first win on 5/17 at UT Martin, working three innings of relief in a 15-8 victory, giving up just two hits, one run with a pair of strikeouts.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Michael Gibbs at Sylacauga High School…was a first-team All-County selection as a senior after batting .350 and posted a 1.30 ERA on the mound…was named Team Captain as a senior…selected to play in the East-West All-Star Classic…named to the Daily Home All-County team…finished his career with a .420 batting average and an earned run average of 0.90.
