2010 OUTLOOK:
Has the ability to dominate in the bullpen…missed the 2009 season after having Tommy John surgery, but has worked extremely hard to get back at 100 percent…coaches expect him to return to his All-Conference form and have a big senior year.

SUMMER BASEBALL: Played for East Alabama Big Train and the Covington Lumberjacks of the Valley League in 2009…the Covington Lumberjacks of the Valley League in 2008…made seven appearances, posting a 1-0 record and one save, with a 3.75 earned run average with 23 strikeouts.

JSU CAREER: (2009) Missed the entire season after having Tommy John surgery and received a redshirt…(2008) Was named to the OVC All-Conference first team after leading the team with eight saves and the OVC with 30 appearances…finished with an 8-2 record and a 2.90 ERA…was third on the team with 62 strikeouts to just 22 walks…did not surrender an earned run until March 15 vs Appalachian State, his ninth appearance of the season and 10.2 innings…got his first win of the year on 3/4 vs UAB after recording three strikeouts in just 1.0 inning to earn a 6-5 win…got the win in a 4-2 decision vs Kennesaw on 3/2, where he had three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief…also earned wins vs Appalachian State (3/15), at Austin Peay (3/29), at Eastern Illinois (4/20), Tennessee Tech (5/11), at Kennesaw State (5/13) and vs SEMO on 5/22 at the OVC Tournament…earned saves at College of Charleston (3/2), at Northwestern State (3/8), Murray State (3/21), SEMO (4/12), SEMO (4/13), Eastern Kentucky (4/27 and 4/28)…recorded a career-high seven strikeouts at Austin Peay on 5/29 in 4.2 innings, scattering four hits and allowing just one run in a 7-6 win…earned his first OVC Pitcher of the Week on March 10, after making three appearances in relief, winning a game and picking up a pair of saves…he tossed the final inning in a 6-5 win over UAB, striking out all three batters to get the win, then in a double-header at Northwestern State, he pitched two innings in each game, not allowing a hit and had a pair of strikeouts to earn both saves…was part of a Gamecock bullpen that posted an impressive 21-2 record on the mound…(2007) Was named to the OVC All-Conference second team after leading the Gamecocks with four saves and the OVC with 30 appearances…pitched 47.0 innings of relief and was fourth on the team with 55 strikeouts and issued 26 walks…gave up 22 runs, 21 earned, for a 4.02 earned run average…earned his first save of the season on 3/3 vs High Point, pitching 2.0 innings with three strikeouts in JSU’s 6-5 win…got his first OVC sav e vs Austin Peay on 3/24 after pitching a scoreless ninth inning in JSU’s 7-6 win over the Governors…picked up his third save in JSU’s 4-3 road win at Southeast Missouri State and hes final save came in 3.0 innings of relief work at Tennessee Tech on 5/6…earned his first collegiate win in JSU’s 9-8 win in the second game at Samford on 3/31 after pitching a season-long 4.0 innings on the mound with four strikeouts and just two hits…also picked up a 3-1 win over UT-Martin on 5/13 with 1.1 inning of work…over his last six regular-season appearances, he struck out 25 batters and allowed just three walks. (2006) As a true freshman in 2006, saw limited action on the mound with eight appearances…finished the season with a 4.50 ERA in 8.0 innings on the mound…did not have a decision…made his JSU debut on 2/24 against Middle Tennessee State, working 1.0 inning with a pair of strike-outs…threw a season-high 2.0 innings against Troy on 2/28.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped four years at Spain Park High School for Casey Dunn and Will Smith…played with JSU teammate Jay Harrington at Spain Park…was selected for the East-West All-Star game.

PERSONAL: Full name is Alexander Edward Jones…born on March 3, 1987…son of Frank and Jackie Jones…has one younger brother, Eric, who plays football at Tulane…double major in computer integrated manufacturing systems and electronics at JSU.
