Biography

JSU CAREER
(2017):
Appeared in 54 of 56 games during his first season as a Gamecock … batted .306 on the season, scored 35 runs, collected 67 hits, had 18 doubles, a team-high 12 home 50 runs batted in and 121 total bases … committed only one field erroring error in 77 opportunities … hit a team-high two home runs against Southeast Missouri on May 24th … spent 47 games batting out of the cleanup spot as the Gamecocks went 25-22 in those games … led the team with 14 multiple RBI games … enters the season with an active 10-game reached base streak … also enters the season with an active 7-game hitting streak, which is the longest on the team … recorded 17 multi-hit games, including six in OVC play.

PRIOR TO JSU: Joined the JSU program after two seasons at Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Alabama…played for Adam Thomas at CVCC and helped the Pirates to back-to-back Alabama Community College titles in 2015 and 2016…in two seasons, CVCC posted a 95-29 overall mark and combined for 52 wins in Region 22…a piece of a Pirate offense that registered 544 runs in 2016, averaging 8.5 runs per game…played in 50 games on the junior college level and turned in a .311 batting average in two seasons at CVCC…drove in 16 RBI as a sophomore, including a pair of home runs…also saw action on the mound with 13 appearances and recording four saves and a win as a sophomore…tallied five strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work en route to a save against Bishop State (4/4)…teammates with Nolan Greckel, who inked with JSU from CVCC…signed with Mississippi State out of high school for football…sidelined with an injury prior to his freshman season in 2013.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: A two-sport standout in baseball and football at Oxford High School… earned Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 6A All-State honors as a designated player ... helped OHS to the AHSAA Class 6A state baseball title as a junior…coached by former Gamecock Wes Brooks at OHS…three-star recruit on the football field according to ESPN.com and Scout.com…ranked as the 45th-best prospect in Alabama by ESPN.com…recorded 49 tackles, including 18.5 for lost yardage, as a senior…added 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery during final campaign…invited to the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Classic, but did not participate due to injury ... helped head coach John Grass, now the head football coach at Jax State, and the Yellow Jackets to a 7-4 overall record.
 
PERSONAL: Born Trent Austin Simpson on Oct. 20, 1994…the son of Mike and Dawn Simpson …has one brother, Tucker, who played baseball at the University of Florida and drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2014 MLB Draft…majoring in business.
