Biography

JSU CAREER: 2017: Appeared in all 12 games and started at defensive end against UT Martin…totaled 14 tackles (eight solo, six assisted)…had 13.5 tackles for loss for 14 yards…recorded 1.5 sacks for a loss of 10 yards…recorded four multi-tackle games…hurried the quarterback three times and forced one fumble…his forced fumble at Austin Peay on Oct. 7 was the first of his career...sacked the Liberty quarterback for six yards on Sept. 23…recorded two unassisted tackles and a sack at UT Martin in the third start of his career in the Gamecocks’ OVC-clinching matchup in Martin, Tenn…also returned one kick during the regular season and one in the playoffs…returned one kick for three yards against Murray State on Nov. 4 and returned a kick for a season-best nine yards Dec. 2 vs. Kennesaw State. 

2016: Saw action in 11 games, starting one at Liberty…finished the season with 15 tackles, with a season-high four coming in a Top 25 Showdown with Coastal Carolina…credited with 0.5 sacks on the year, which came against the Chanticleers on Sept. 17…recorded a quarterback hurry against Tennessee Tech on Oct. 8 and at Southeast Missouri on Nov. 5…recorded at least one tackle in seven games…had three tackles against Austin Peay on Oct. 15 and UT Martin on Nov. 19, when the Gamecocks locked up their third-straight OVC conference championship.

2015: Appeared in 13 games, starting one against Murray State…finished the season with 20 tackles, with a season-high four coming against UT Martin…recorded 3.5 sacks on the season, good enough for third on the team, with two solo sacks against the Racers…finished with 5.0 tackles for loss…led the Gamecocks with two fumble recoveries, including one against Sam Houston State in the FCS Playoffs.

2014: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach Steve Martin at Ashville High School…made the move to linebacker and tight end after serving as the Bulldogs starting quarterback for his first three seasons…rated a three-star recruit by ESPN, Rivals.com and 247Sports.com…as a quarterback early in his career, threw for over 1,000 yards and ran for over 1,000 yards starting as a freshman…Rivals.com ranked him as the No. 40 player in Alabama and in the top 125 athletes in the 2014 class…chose JSU over UAB, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

PERSONAL: Full name is Ervin Jerome Moss, Jr…was born on December 24, 1995…is the son of Kim and Ervin Moss…has one sister, Nikki…majoring integrated studies at JSU.
