(2011) Made 11 appearances, all out of the bullpen as a junior…posted an 8.00 ERA in 18.0 innings with an 0-1 record…allowed 20 hits, 19 runs, 16 earned runs, with 11 strikeouts…made three apparances vs OVC foes, posting a 1.93 ERA after allowing just one run in 4.2 innings…scattered three hits in 3.1 innings at Middle Tennessee with a pair of strikeouts (2/25)…got stuck with the loss after allowing five runs in 2/3 innings vs UAB on 3/1…tied his season-long outing on 3/16 vs Navy, giving up four hits in 3.1 innings…pitched two shutout innings at Tennessee Tech (4/2), allowing just one hit…gave up an earned run vs Austin Peay (5/28) in the OVC Tournament.
 
(2009) Made 12 appearances as a redshirt freshman, earning one start…posted a 6.10 ERA in 31.0 innings on the mound…made his collegiate debut against UAB (2/24), allowing one hit in 1.0 inning on the mound…picked up his first career win after pitching 1.2 innings against Harvard, giving up two hits with two strikeouts on 3/7…had a season-high four strikeouts against Samford (3/10) in a 10-1 Gamecock win…had three strikeouts and allowed only two hits against UAB on 5/5…made his first career start against Tennessee Tech in the OVC Tournament on 5/23, where he allowed three hits, three runs with a pair of strikeouts in 4.0 innings on the mound.
 
(2008) Sat out the season as a redshirt.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Bart Young at Ranburne High School, where he helped the Bulldogs to the AHSAA Class 2A State Championship in 2006…was named the State Championship Most Valuable Player…was a first-team All-State selection both his junior and senior year and was a second-team selection his sophomore year…was a four-time All-Region selection…holds the school record for most strikeouts in school history with more than 350…was selected to the Anniston Star Diamon Dazzler team…also lettered in football and basketball, where he was named defensive MVP in basketball.
 
PERSONAL: Full name is Richard Chase Smith…son of Richard Smith…born on September 14, 1988…has one younger brother, Chance…lists the Boston Red Sox as his favorite Major League team…major is Sociology at JSU.
