SUMMER BASEBALL: In 2011, played in the prestigeous Cape Cod Baseball League for Kelly Nickerson on the Orleans Firebirds…was named as the Cape Cod Baseball League starting first baseman on the Eastern Keivision All-Star team, played at historic Fenway Park on July 29…received the prestideous 10th man Manny Rabello Award, which is presented to one player who has come through in the clutch all year and gone above and beyound what is asked, as selected by the league’s coaches…finished the season second in the league with home runs (6) and third RBI (23) after batting .276…was named the Cape Cod League Player of the Week on June 27, after hitting two home runs and driving in four runs in four games, including 3-for-3 with a double and HR against Cotuit…played two years in the New England Collegiate Baseball League for the North Shore Navigators for Jason Falcon (2009) and Jeff Waldron (2010)…was named to the NECBL All-Star team in 2009 after leading the Eastern Division in several offensive categories.
JSU CAREER:
(2010) As a junior, was named second-team All-Ohio Valley Conference after batting .344…played and started 50 games, inclusing 46 at first and four as DH…had 66 hits, with seven doubles, one triple and a team-best 10 home runs…was second on the team with 46 RBI…drew 18 walks and was hit a team-high seven times…had 18 multiple-hit games, including10 2-hit games, sevent 3-hit games and one 5-hit game…was second on team with 12 multiple-RBI games, including eight 2-RBI games, three 3-RBI games and one 5-RBI game…had three games with two home runs…had a season-best nine game hitting streak…hit an amazing 14-for-15 for a .933 batting average with runner on third and less than two outs…batted .354 vs OVC foes with a team-high 19 RBI…made his JSU debut and recorded his first hit with a double at Auburn on 2/22…had a season-high five hits at Middle Tennessee on 2/26, where he hit two home runs and drove in three runs…had three hits vs Indiana (3/15) with a solo HR in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game…drove in three runs on a pair of hits vs Buckenll on 3/19…had three hits vs UTM on 3/26 with a double…drove in three runs on two hits at Tennessee Tech (4/3)…went 3-for-4 at UAB with two RBI and scored two runs on 4/5…also had three hits at Austin Peay (4/16) and was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a home run at Southeast Missouri (4/22)…had three hits at EIU on 5/7…got hot at the OVC Tournament and went 6-for-14 with eight RBI, but had his best game vs SEMO (5/28) when he drove in seven runs on three hits, including a pair of home runs to earn OVC All-Tournament honors…was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 40th round of the Major Leauge Baseball first-year draft.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played at Cypress College for Scott Pickler for one season and for Barry Rosen at Saint Anselm College his freshman year in the NE-10, a wood bat conference.…was a first-team NE-10 All-Rookie selection after batting .394 with three home runs, 15 doubles and 52 hits…was team Most Valuable Player after setting school record for doubles and batting average…was a first-team All-Conference and All-Region selection…was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 2010 Major League Baseball first-year draft in the 42 round.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played at Medford High School for Nick Tucci and Paul Mattotal…was named league’s Most Valuable Player as a senior after batting better than .400 in the Great Boston League, a wood bat conference…was team captain and team Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior…was named to the Greater Boston League All-Star Team for three straight years after leading team in most offensive categories…was named Best Male Athlete as a senior…finished with career with a .357 batting average and 12 home runs…also lettered in football and basketball…was a second-team All-District performer in football…was an honor student.
PERSONAL: Full name is Ben Jacob Waldrip…son of David Waldrip and Juanita Waldrip…born on June 27, 1990…has two brothers, Matthew and Andrew…his father, David, played baseball at the University of Central Arkansas…majoring in biology at JSU.
