JSU CAREER:
2012:
Played in seven of the Gamecocks’ 11 games as a sophomore, missing a four-game stretch with an injury…caught nine passes for 79 yards as a wideout and served as the team’s primary kick return man…returned 21 kickoffs for a total of 492 yards, including a season-long return of 73 yards at Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 22…in that EKU game, returned six kicks for 186 yards, both season highs…had a 51-yard return at UT Martin on Nov. 3…caught a season-high three passes for 27 yards vs. Chattanooga on Sept. 8…had two catches for 25 yards in the season opener at Arkansas on Sept. 1.

2011: Played in all 11 games for the Gamecocks as a redshirt freshman and was one of the most dangerous return men in the OVC…was second in the OVC in kickoff return yardage, averaging 24.4 yards per return…returned one 99 yards for a touchdown at Kentucky on Oct. 22, tied for the fourth-longest kickoff return in JSU history and the longest since Maurice Dupree’s 99-yard return in 2008…was the second-longest return by an OVC player during the 2011 season…returned 18 kicks 439 yards…nine of his 18 returns were for at least 20 yards…had a 42-yard return and a 38-yard return in the season opener vs. UT Martin on Sept. 1…also had a 38-yard return vs. Eastern Illinois on Sept. 24…caught two passes for five yards, with a seven-yard grab at Austin Peay on Oct. 15.

2010: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Cherokee County High School under head coach Tripp Curry…led the Warriors to the Class 4A State Championship and a perfect 15-0 in 2009…teammate of former JSU quarterback Coty Blanchard…named Second Team all-state as a sophomore and junior at CCHS and tabbed to the First Team after his senior season…established a new Warrior record for receiving yards in a season and career with 203 career catches and amassing over 2,800 yards in four seasons on the prep level…also participated in basketball and track at CCHS…Named Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

PERSONAL: Full name Gabriel Christian Chambers…son of Peter and Carol Chambers…born Oct. 14, 1991, in Orlando, Fla…has an older brother, Quen…has a newborn daughter named Serenity…majoring in physical education at JSU.
