JSU CAREER: 
2012: Appeared in eight of the Gamecocks’ 11 games as a junior after transferring from Troy…hauled in six catches for 63 yards and one touchdown on the year…had two catches in a game twice…had two catches for 41 yards and his first career touchdown catch at Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 22, a 23-yard toss from Marques Ivory…had two catches for 14 yards at Tennessee Tech on Oct. 6…caught his first pass in a Gamecock uniform in the home opener, a 3-yard reception vs. Chattanooga on Sept. 8…had a five-yard catch at Florida on Nov. 17.

PRIOR TO JSU: Spent three seasons at Troy University in Troy, Ala…redshirting in 2009 before seeing limited action on field goal and PAT units as a freshman in 2010…in 2011, played in 12 games for the Trojans in a spread system in which the tight end is limited…hauled in three passes for 15 yards.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Mark Britton at Cullman High School…named first team all-state, all-area, and all-district as a senoir…in his senior year, he recorded 82 catches for 1,263 yards (both led the state) and scored 16 touchdowns (second in the state)…lead the state in receptions in a single game with 15…was selected to the AHSAA North-South All-Star game…was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association 5A all-state team…was a The Birmingham News Super Senior Best of the Rest selection…set a school record for receiving yards in a season…biggest offensive game came against Hartselle when he had 165 yards and three touchdowns…also lettered in basketball…ranks 9th in receiving yards in a season, 11th in single season receptions and 6th in receptions in a single game in AHSAA history…was selected as a team captain in both football and basketball…was a member of the FCA and the FFA.

PERSONAL: Full name is Gavin Folsom Ellis, Jr…born on February 15, 1990, in Birmingham, Ala…the son of Nancy and Gavin Ellis, Sr.…has one brother, Trawick…earned his bachelor’s degree in liberal studies at JSU and is taking graduate classes.
