JSU CAREER:
2012: Played in all 11 of the Gamecocks’ games as a junior and started 10 of them at linebacker…led the team and was seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference with 89 tackles, 61 solo…had 5.5 tackles for a loss, one sack and one interception, while breaking up three passes and hurrying the quarterback four times…forced two fumbles and recovered one…was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11 after a win over Austin Peay that saw him record 14 tackles, 13 solo, intercept a pass and return it 19 yards and record a QB hurry…on Sept. 8 vs. Chattanooga had 15 tackles, all solo, to become the first Gamecock to record at least 15 tackles in a game since 2009…had 13 tackles on Oct. 13 at Eastern Illinois…forced a fumble and recovered one for a 49-yard return in the season opener at Arkansas on Sept. 1, a game that also saw him make eight stops.

2011: Started all 11 games for the Gamecocks as a sophomore…led the team and was 17th in the Ohio Valley Conference with 77 tackles, 65 of which were solo…his 65 solo tackles were second-most in the OVC…not only is he JSU’s top returning tackler from 2011 but he is the only returning player for JSU’s top six tacklers…had four stops for a loss, one interception, one break-up and a quarterback hurry…made his JSU debut in the season opener vs. UT Martin on Sept. 1 and made a team-high nine tackles, seven solo…had eight tackles, a QB hurry and a pass break-up the next week at Chattanooga…made a season-high 10 tackles twice, including 10 solo tackles vs. Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 5…also recorded 10 stops, one for a loss, at Murray State on Oct. 1…had an interception at Austin Peay on Oct. 15 and returned it 22 yards…led the team in tackles four times, including nine at Kentucky on Oct. 22 and eight at Southeast Missouri on Nov. 12.

2010: Did not see any action.

2009: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Mike Owens at Ft. Walton High School…was a third-team all-state selection his junior and senior seasons…was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year…was named first-team all-region and all-district…finished his senior season with 129 tackles, 11 pass break-ups and a pair of sacks…had his best game vs Mobley, where he recorded 21 tackles…helped the Vikings to the Region Championship…was selected to the East-West All-Star game…finished with more than 270 tackles, eight sacks and three interceptions during his career.

PERSONAL: Full name is Rashad Detwan Smith…son of Mike and Latina Smith…born on July 3, 1990…has one brother, Dominique, and one sister, Taj…majoring in liberal arts at JSU.
